Mace aviation team delivers for BAA

12/12/2009

The Mace aviation team at Heathrow has completed the critical enabling works for the closure of Terminal 2 with the handover of the last two projects, QB bussing and Pier 7 baggage and connections.

QB bussing was a logistically challenging project which included the remodelling of the central terminal roads system to construct new bus routes. The majority of the works were completed at night when closing roads, and diverting traffic would cause minimal disruption. The project received high praise from BAA's operations for the clean handover and the high standard of temporary traffic arrangements and organisation throughout the implementation of this project.

The baggage and connections project took place within an existing but derelict section of Terminal 3 Pier 7. Works included in the challenging 11-week programme were structural alterations, new drainage infrastructure, fit out and roofing. The connection and baggage engineering department was delighted when the new facility was handed over on time.

These two projects are the final contracts in a programme that the Mace aviation team commenced in December 2007. The project team has handed over a total of 18 projects in a 21-month period with no reportable accidents. Notably the project used Mace Group's behavioural safety programme (BMOS).

Director of the Mace aviation team Nigel Cole said: "I am delighted with the results this team has achieved, particularly with the approach to health, safety and environment and behavioural safety management, which has been exemplary. To finish these projects to programme is a fantastic achievement."
