Mace Plus, the considerate constructor

01/04/2010

Following a second visit to Mace Plus' Garth Hill college project, the assessors from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) issued the project a score of 36 and a half out of 40. The score could have been stronger had it not been for CCS' practice of only allowing exceptional scoring once which was declared in the first visit.

The successful visit puts the site in the top 5% of the UK and in the running the for the CCS gold award in November later this year. CCS had no findings or recommendations to implement and concluded saying: "The site continues to give a very good impression - well done."

A challenge the project has is its close proximity to existing school playing fields whilst the current school remains in operation. Comprising four separate three-storey buildings and a central courtyard, the project totals 15,000 squared meters and will cater for 1,550 pupils.
