Mace project wins green award

04/11/2009

The Crawley Library project has received the top prize in the 2009 West Sussex design and sustainability awards.

Mace delivered the £16m project on time and budget leaving client West Sussex County Council highly satisfied with the result. Acting as project manager and contract administrator Mace successfully handed over the project at the tail end of last year and it was officially opened to the public on 16th December.

The new buildings incorporate a number of green design initiatives such as biomass boilers, a sedum roof and thermal mass for heating and cooling, giving it excellent environmental credentials for which it has now been recognised.

West Sussex Council leader Henry Smith said: "I am delighted that Crawley Library is not only our most sustainable and environmentally friendly library in the county, but the most environmentally sustainable building in West Sussex overall. It deservedly won the top prize."
