Mace sponsors Young Haringey Heroes Awards 2009

12/08/2009
Mace Group is proud to participate in this year's Haringey Young Heroes awards, which support and recognise the inspirational young people living in the borough by sponsoring the young entrepreneur award. The aim of the event was to celebrate Haringey children and young people's positive contribution to their own lives, the lives of their families and the wider community. There were 11 award categories covering a wide range of achievements by young people, including awards for caring for others, academic and sporting achievements as well as contributions to the environment and music and the performing arts.
Almost 200 nominations came in from schools, youth groups, faith and community groups, libraries and any others who know a young person who has demonstrated exceptional qualities and strengths in any of the stated categories. These were then short listed by a panel of six judges representing members, schools, young people and police.
Mace has been working with Haringey Borough Council for a number of years, working on ‘The Bridge' New Deal for Communities scheme and delivering twelve schools under the BSF programme
Pictured is director of public sector, David Bill with young entrepreneur award winner Soriyah McKay. Soriyah devised, developed and produced a project plan with her peers towards creating their own music studio. Having costed the project, they successfully applied for Youth Opportunity Funds and under Soriyah’s supervision, the studio was put together and is being used by local young singers and musicians. Soriyah is currently exploring ways to generate income to keep the studio open to young people.
