Information

The brand new Crawley Library was officially opened to the public on 16th December 2008. Acting as project manager, Mace was on time and budget throughout the design and build of the Library facility and associated buildings for West Sussex County Council. The Mace team worked closely with the client project manager, council officers, library staff and library users to ensure all specified needs were documented and met.

West Sussex County Council were unfamiliar with the design and build form of contract laid out, requesting numerous changes both during and after construction. The close relationship between contractor, client and Mace allowed the project team to overcome these obstacles and deliver the new facility successfully, to a very satisfied client.

The new facility will revitalise Crawley's library services and serve its growing population. The associated buildings provide 45,000 square foot of space for social services, trading standards and registrar services. The new buildings incorporate a number of green design initiatives such as biomass boilers, a sedum roof and thermal mass for heating and cooling. This is a vast improvement from the old library building which used excessive amounts of energy and caused concern to the borough and county council.

Mace Sustain was the planning supervisor for the Crawley Library project.
