Mace helps deliver Edinburgh's most prestigious project

Mace has been appointed as project manager and buildability advisor for the extension to the iconic Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) building, one of the largest and most prestigious projects currently being developed in Edinburgh.

The £85m project involves the creation of an additional 2,000 sq m of subterranean function space in a multi-purpose hall served by a bespoke and innovative moving floor system that will allow EICC to transform the main hall from a level exhibition space to a fully tiered seated auditorium at the touch of a button. The new facilities will be tied into the existing EICC facility at key interface points. In addition a new glass atrium building will be constructed at street level, adjacent to the existing EICC entrance, and will provide a dedicated entrance to the underground function space whilst providing cafe and office space facilities at the upper levels.

On top of the additional function space an eight-storey Grade A speculative office development of approximately 185,000 square feet (net lettable area) will be constructed and will be one of the final features in Edinburgh's Exchange area home to key blue chip financial sector businesses.

Since opening in 1995, the existing EICC facility has contributed more than £200m to the Edinburgh economy.  The proposed extension will ensure that Edinburgh and the EICC retains its position as a premier destination for business conferences and events.

The project is scheduled to commence on site in 2010 and will be completed at the end of 2012.
