Information
Mace was requested by GSK to provide management construction expertise to upgrade their 12 year old main data centre in Stevenage. This all had to be carried out whilst maintaining the data centre 24/7. There was only one twenty hour window at the end of the project to carry final IST/CST.
Mace altered the existing M&E installation from a single N+1 facility to a duplicate supply 2N A and B supplied system. We also extended the data centre by 20% and increased the capacity from 550w/m2 to 750 w/m2. The BMS and fire alarm systems for the whole building were also completely renewed.
Additional external plant space was built to provide space for 6 no, new 410 KW Ammonia chillers, 4 new pumps, new HV transformer, switchgear and a 600 KVA Static UPS system (2 X 300KVA). The new plant had to be built, installed, commissioned and put into service prior to the two old uniblock UPSs, chillers and pumps being stripped out to make room for an additional 8 CRAC units, dual fed PDU's and the second 600 KVA UPS system and associated new switchgear. Also during this process we incorporated a temporary dual redundant generator system whilst we added a third 1250 KVA generator into the building and completely changed the generator control panels to bring these into the 21st century.
