Following the 1997 IRA bombing in Manchester, Mace stepped in to help the city council rebuild and regenerate elements of the city centre, including the much loved Royal Exchange Theatre.
Mace's role was to help the council recreate a thriving new centre for commerce, the arts and recreation for the people of Manchester, and to restore confidence in the future for the whole community. Mace was involved in maintaining close co-operation between public and private sectors and their funding partners. The redevelopment and reinstatement of the Royal Exchange Theatre was just one of the projects that Mace delivered as part of this extensive regeneration.
The Royal Exchange Theatre is a Grade II listed building that required the development of a new studio theatre, back-of-house facilities and additional bar, cafe, restaurant and function facilities, as well as re-engineering and refurbishment of the glass sided tubular dome and refurbishments of the existing wood block flooring.
