Bringing history to Pier Head
Mace has been appointed by client National Museums Liverpool (NML) as the £41m base build client advisor, project management support and design manager on the Museum of Liverpool project to deliver what will be one of the world's leading city history museums attracting over 750,000 visitors each year.
The museum which is currently taking shape on Liverpool's pier head, is the largest newly built national museum in Britain for almost a century. Opening in 2010 it will be a fantastic family visitor attraction and an exceptional learning and community resource telling the story of Liverpool's unique development. The museum will provide 8,000 square metres of public space across three floors, and visitors will have access to over 6,000 objects that are currently in storage, many of which have never been on public display before.
The Museum of Liverpool is the major physical and cultural legacy of 2008, Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture, and will express the city's confidence as a great 21st century city.
Mace's role in supporting the client and wider project team includes facilitating the smooth flow of communication between the client, the design team and the contractor thus ensuring that thorough auditable measures are in place. Mace will also help to address the design issues log which highlights critical aspects of the scheme such as the weather-tight date and BREEAM ‘very good' rating, both of which are necessary for the museum's ERDF funding.
