Due to popular demand, Como hosted their third architectural walking tour in London. An eager group gathered at Southwark tube station in the early evening of 17 September to meet guide, architect and lecturer Benedict O'Looney. Benedict, who does a great deal of work around the Borough of Southwark, pointed out both old and modern architecturally significant buildings in the area. With his passion for architecture, in depth knowledge of the area and preference for explaining details with chalk drawings on the pavement, the tour was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Among the buildings visited was the Young Vic theatre which was refurbished a couple of years ago, the Alsop designed Palestra building, The Blue Fin building with interactive statue outside called ‘Monument to the Unknown Artist' commissioned by Land Securities, the Hop Exchange which was first opened in 1868 and Floral Hall near Borough market. The tour ended with some discussion and a few drinks at The George Inn which is London's only surviving galleried coaching inn.
Guests from several leading practices attended the event including Broadway Malayan, TTSP, Carey Jones, JLL, MCM and Tilney Shane.
